Workshops

Once upon a time there were 3 main phases in our lives: childhood, adulthood, old age.People grew up, got a job, worked until retirement, and then had a brief period of time(used to be about 5-8 years) of old age before life ended.

Today we’re encountering ACT III of IV since life expectancy has increased dramatically, and now there’s likely to be a 10-15 year period of good health and energy after you retire and before you “grow old”.

Once upon a time there were 3 main phases in our lives: childhood, adulthood, old age.  People grew up, got a job, worked until retirement, and then had a brief period of time (used to be about 5-8 years) of old age before life ended.

Today we’re encountering ACT III of IV since life expectancy has increased dramatically, and now there’s likely to be a 10-15 year period of good health and energy after you retire and before you “grow old”.

Planning for ACT III is a relatively new phenomenon.  Most of us aren’t ready to spend our post-retirement years just playing golf or cards or puttering in our gardens.  We’re vital.  We still have a lot to offer, and we want to stay engaged in the world around us.

As we plan/enter/live retirement, and leave behind a life we’ve lived for a long time, we have a wide range of opportunities and choices.  Many of us have spent time exploring the meaning of our lives, our identity, our inner self, our spirituality, our politics and our sexuality.  As we get older we revisit much of our earlier thinking.  These workshops do not include financial planning, but focus instead on planning for the life you will lead after retirement.

For The First Time workshops will help you to answer these questions … and more:

  • What does growing older mean to me?
  • How is my relationship to work and money changing?
  • What choices do I have now?
  • How will I cope with potential ill health and loneliness when I retire?
  • What are the challenges that face me, what are the pleasures, and how can I make the best of my retirement?

For The First Time workshops can be custom designed to meet the needs of:

  • participants who are thinking about retiring but can’t quite decide
  • participants who are approaching their retirement date
  • participants who have recently retired
  • participants who’ve been retired for a bit of time and are feeling a little lost

We offer a range of workshop possibilities:

We can also custom design a workshop to meet  your group’s specific needs.

If you’re interested in having a workshop in your community, read or download the GUIDE TO RUNNING YOUR OWN FOR THE FIRST TIME WORKSHOP.  Prepared by Carol Holloway, who ran a 2-day workshop in Cambridge U.K., it will lay out – step by step – what you need to do.
